# Zoom AI Meeting Notes
> [!abstract] What this note is
> A reference page for getting a transcript and a plain summary out of every Zoom meeting you host, kept private to the host, without spending AI credits. Setting names were read from the Zoom web portal on 16 October 2026; Zoom renames things often, so check the portal if a label here does not match.

> [!tip] Give it a few minutes
> Summaries and transcripts are made **after** the meeting ends and take a few minutes to appear. Asking Zoom's AI about a meeting that just finished can return "this meeting has no transcript" even when one is on its way.
## How it works on a paid plan
On a paid Zoom Workplace plan (Pro and up), these are part of the subscription and are not charged per use:[^1][^2]
- **Meeting summary** — a written summary with next steps, made after each meeting you host. The **General** template gives a plain overview.
- **Meeting transcript** — the full text of what was said, saved with your recordings.
- **Questions about a meeting** — ask Zoom's AI about a meeting, answered from that meeting's own transcript.
- **Smart recording** — highlights, chapters and next steps added to cloud recordings.
- **My Notes** — a personal transcript and notes for meetings you attend.
The free Basic plan caps these: three hosted meeting summaries, three My Notes uses and twenty AI questions a month, according to a third-party summary of Zoom's pricing.[^2] Check Zoom's own pricing page before relying on those numbers.
## What costs credits
**AI credits** pay for **ZoomMate**, Zoom's agent product: research across sources, automated multi-step workflows, AI agents, documents generated from scratch, and connections to other companies' apps.[^3][^4] Zoom's own pages describe the boundary loosely, and work confined to Zoom's own meetings, chat and documents "may be available" without credits.[^4]
An account can carry a **ZoomMate Freemium** grant: a one-time allowance of up to 500 credits per user, shown on the AI credits page. Credits are spent only when a ZoomMate feature runs.
To stay at zero, leave the meeting features on and turn the generators off:
| Keep on | Turn off |
|---|---|
| Meeting summary with AI | ZoomMate, Workflows, AI agents |
| Ask questions in-meeting with AI | Content generation in Canvas, Paper, Sheets (including AI Formula and AI Function), Slides, Whiteboard, Hub |
| Meeting transcript | Task creation with AI |
| Smart recording with AI | AI content generation in My Notes |
| My Notes transcription | Clips AI and avatars |
Then check the AI credits page after a week. If the number moved, something on the right-hand side is still on.
## Keeping it private to the host
In the **Zoom AI** tab:
- **Meeting summary with AI** → *Auto-start when meeting starts*, and *Automatically share summary with* → **Only me (meeting host)**. Leave the participant email notification off.
- **Allow users to ask questions in-meeting with AI** → *Auto-start*, and *Who can ask questions* → **Only meeting host**.
- **Restrict Zoom AI features and transcription when external users join** → **off**. When this is on, the AI stops as soon as anyone from outside your account joins, which for most meetings with outside guests means no transcript.
- **Auto-delete meeting summaries** → off, unless you want them to expire.
In **Meeting transcript** (Meeting tab):
- *Automatically generate transcripts for* → **All meetings and webinars**.
- Untick *Allow all meeting participants to view transcripts during the meeting*. The host's copy is still made and kept.
In the **Recording** tab:
- *Create audio transcript* on, for a transcript file with every cloud recording.
- **Viewers can see the transcript** → off, so a shared recording link plays the video without the text.
Participants are always told when Zoom's AI is running. That notice cannot be switched off, and it should not be.
## Meetings you don't host
Every one of these settings belongs to the **host**. In a meeting on someone else's Zoom account, their settings decide whether a summary or transcript is made and who receives it. A participant can ask the host to start the AI. My Notes is meant to give an attendee a personal transcript, but the host's account may restrict it. The dependable answer is to send your own meeting link.
**Google Meet and Microsoft Teams** are different: Zoom's AI can join those as a notetaker when **Allow Zoom AI to join third-party meetings** is on and a calendar is connected on your Zoom profile. Leaving *Automatically join meetings on user's calendar* **off** means it joins only the meetings you send it to. Integrations with other companies' apps are among the things Zoom says can draw credits,[^4] so check the credits page after the first one.
